1000 Stair Climb |
The 1000 stair climb is an annual
event that draws participants far and wide. The stairs are unique
to Bisbee. They are a system of old and deteriorating stairways
that course up and through its picturesque hills, affording
views of the town's quaint houses and colorful gardens. The
stairways originally followed the mule paths worn into the terrain
during the heyday of Bisbee's copper mining past. To put men
back to work during the Great Depression, the Work Projects
Administration (WPA) had overseen building of the stairs over
those same pathways. Proceeds are used to repair and maintain
the stairs. |

Founded in 1908, Turquoise Valley is considered
Arizona's oldest continuously operating golf course. It began
as a 9 hole course played twice from different tee boxes. In
January of 1999 the "back nine" was officially opened
and is a true desert course. It features a par 6, 747 yard hole,
the longest in Arizona! |
